Flooding continues in Nakhon Phanom, Bueng Kan, Phetchaburi

BANGKOK, Aug 25 (TNA) -- The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reports that flooding remains in 17 districts of Nakhon Phanom, Bueng Kan and Phetchaburi provinces and assistance is being rushed to affected people. Chayapol Thitisak, director-general of the department, said the influences of Storm Bebinca and the southwestern monsoon on Aug 17-25 caused flash floods, runoffs, overflows and landslides affecting about 93,000 people including four killed in 11 provinces namely Nan, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Phayao, Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Phetchabun, Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom, Bueng Kan and Phetchaburi. The conditions were alleviated in eight provinces but remain in Nakhon Phanom, Bung Kan and Phetchaburi, affecting about 38,800. Waterways are overflowing in Nakhon Phanom and Bung Kan. In Phetchaburi, floods are receding in Kaeng Krachan, Tha Yang, Ban Lat and Ban Laem districts as the level of the Phetchaburi River is subsiding. Concerned organizations including the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation are helping affected people by speeding up flood drainage and distributing necessities.
