Flooding reaches Bangkok outskirts
BANGKOK, September 30 (TNA) - Rising floodwaters are affecting the outskirts of Bangkok as disaster units mobilise more water pumps to speed up water drainage.
On Sunday, Science and Technology Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi, in his capacity as head of the state-run flood committee, observed the Lat Krabang Industrial Estate, which was submerged Saturday due to heavy rains.
Officials confirmed Sunday however, the compound had been drained out water, though the entrance area was still submerged.
Meanwhile, Bangkok officials, together with the Royal Irrigation Department, said they had deployed at least 60 water pumps in flood-affected areas, including in Lat Krabang district, which was severely flooded late last year. It was understood that it could take at least one week for floodwaters there to recede. (TNA)
