Floodwater is receding in Phetchaburi
PHETCHABURI, Aug 25 (TNA) – Floodwater is receding from Phetchaburi provincial seat and some local roads are dry now.
Officials reduce the discharge rate of the Phetchaburi dam yesterday. Consequently the level of the Phetchaburi River is almost 20 centimeters lower.
Twenty-six pumps are operated around the clock to speed up the drainage of floodwater into the river.
Many areas in Phetchaburi municipality become dry after being inundated in the past three days.
They include Matayawong and Panit Charoen roads as well as a walking street behind the provincial governor’s residence close to the Phetchaburi River.
Flooding remains only on Pong Suriya Road and a road in front of Wat Yai Suwannaram. The low-lying area is 5-10 centimetres under water.
A deputy governor of Phetchaburi said situations in downtown areas were much better and all local roads should be completely dry in the afternoon. Local authorities will be prepared for possible seasonal flooding in October and November, he said.
High-power pumps were installed at Wat Yai Suwannaram which dates from the Ayutthaya period and gathers considerable works of local fine arts.
The ancient Buddhist temple is flooded for the third consecutive year as it is the lowest area of Phetchaburi province. The compound of the temple and the road in front of it is 10-20 centimeters under water. (TNA)
