Food supply security bill

Almaty, July 30, 2009 (Khabar) - “Adilet” Democratic Party’s representatives presented their suggestions about bill related to food supply security. The president Nursultan Nazarbayev has set tasks of safe supply of the population with food products and the development of agro-industrial complex before the government. The bill was passed to the Majilis last October. However, members of the “Adilet” party believe that this document requires to be extended. According to them, it is necessary to consider such factors as the quality of goods, reinforcing sanitary control, eliminating numerous mediators along the way of agricultural producers to the end consumer, and creating a state trade and purchase system and procurer cooperative stores with a retail chain in all the population centres of the country instead. Party representatives hold the opinion that such measures will allow for reducing prices of food products almost twofold. Also, they suggest that tax amendments should be introduced and benefits and preferences for agricultural producers should be provided for.

Tolegen Sydykhov, first deputy chairman of “Adilet” party:
- I can’t say that the government is standing still by any means. Corresponding measures are being discussed and addressed. The problem is, there is no contact and connection between the executive power and the civil society represented by political parties and the government. Our experts and specialists are available for taking counsel in the case where our propositions are heard.
