Food vendors asked to help tackle grease in sewers

BANGKOK, Nov 14 (TNA) – Bangkok governor Pol Gen Aswin Kwanmuang urges city dwellers, restaurants and food stalls to help solve the problem of oil and grease, clogging sewers. He posted a message on his Facebook, saying that fat, oil and grease, produced by cooking is an obstacle in water drainage. He said the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) usually dredges sewers for 6,400 kilometres before the next rainy season. It work on main roads and hires the Department of Corrections to have prisoners to do the job in local communities and villages. However, floods still repeat in the capital, so he asked people to install grease traps to treat waste water before it flows into the sewer system. It will help save Bangkok from flooding, he added. Responding to his post, Facebook users supported him and shared comments as well as report the food vendors, who pour leftover soups and liquid waste into sewers. (TNA)
