Foothill residents in Thailand warned of flash floods

BANGKOK, September 17 (TNA) - Thai people living along foothills and low-lying areas by waterways are warned of possible runoffs and landslides due to heavy rains in the next 4-5 days, says Wibul Sa-nguanpong, Director-General of Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. Wibul told reporters Monday that the department’s provincial officials have been instructed to stand ready for an escalating situation. So far, 11 provinces have been affected by the new round of flooding, which has caused trouble to more than 57,000 families or 142,000 people, according to the chief of Thailand’s disaster prevention agency.
