Foreign Minister chairs Higher Coordination Committee for Human Rights meeting

Manama, May 9 (BNA): Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, chaired today the online meeting of the Higher Coordination Committee for Human Rights, with the participation of the Assistant Foreign Minister and Vice-Chairman of the Committee, Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabr Al-Doseri, and members of the Committee. The Minister of Foreign Affairs hailed the royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to protect human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He noted His Majesty’s continued emphasis on the need to increase national efforts to promote human rights among all citizens and residents without discrimination and ensure the Kingdom's commitment to the principles and goals of the United Nations and international agreements and covenants related to the protection of human rights. Dr. Al-Zayani commended the government’s efforts, headed by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, in implementing human rights programmes that aim at providing equal services and standards to all citizens and residents alike. He added that this belief was reflected in the way the Kingdom has dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic, as it provided free examination, quarantine, treatment and vaccination to combat the spread of the pandemic to all citizens and residents without discrimination. The Minister also lauded the continuous efforts of the Ministry of Interior, under the leadership of the Minister of Interior, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, in the field of human rights protection. He praised the successful visit organised by the ministry for a number of ambassadors accredited to the Kingdom to the Correction and Rehabilitation Center in Jaw. He noted that the visit refuted the malicious allegations aimed at offending the Kingdom of Bahrain, and showed the diplomatic delegation with all transparency and clarity the advanced level of health and social procedures and services provided to the Center's inmates. The Minister also valued the important role played by the Higher Coordination Committee for Human Rights in promoting human rights in the Kingdom. The committee discussed in its meeting a number of topics on its agenda, including the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in organising workshops on the national plan for human rights, and reviewing the results of the recent visit by a number of Ambassadors to Jaw Correction and Rehabilitation Centre. It also discussed a number of reports relating to human rights.
