Foreign Minister Meets His Canadian Counterpart In New York

Baghdad / NINA / - Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, held in New York. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement: "During the meeting, various aspects of bilateral relations between Baghdad and Ottawa, and ways of cooperation in various fields, were discussed." The minister stressed the importance of achieving partnership between Iraq and Canada, praising Canada's efforts within the international coalition to combat the terrorist organization ISIS. Minister Fuad Hussein touched on the internal situation and the movement of political forces that Iraq is witnessing in order to reach common solutions to hold a session of the House of Representatives in the coming days, with the aim of forming a government. The two ministers also discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest, and stressed the need to work to reduce tension and achieve calm in the region, and to avoid escalation that would not serve any party.
