Foreign Minister meets IFRC Undersecretary General; Cuban counterpart

New York, Sept.29 (BNA): On the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, met with the Undersecretary General for Partnerships at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Dr. Jemilah Mahmood, who had previously won the Shaikh Isa Award for Service to Humanity. The Minister of Foreign Affairs hailed the important humanitarian role of IFRC in providing assistance and alleviating the humanitarian suffering of many people and societies, as well as contributing to the promotion of human dignity, peace and supporting development efforts in the world. He also expressed the appreciation of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the relief efforts of the federation. Dr. Jemilah Mahmood expressed appreciation for the humanitarian contributions of the Kingdom of Bahrain at the regional and international levels, noting the remarkable role played by the Royal Charity Organization and Bahrain Red Crescent Society in the fields of relief and support to those in need and those affected by natural disasters, wars and conflicts. She affirmed the keenness of the IFRC to further develop its cooperation and partnership with the Kingdom of Bahrain regarding humanitarian activities. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla. During the meeting, the Foreign Minister highlighted the relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Cuba and noted the importance of enhancing them in all fields to achieve common interests. He expressed hope for stronger and more developed joint cooperation for the benefit of both countries and people. For his part, the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed the Republic of Cuba’s keenness to further develop its relations with the Kingdom of Bahrain at various levels. He also valued the Kingdom's efforts towards achieving international peace and security, noting its progress in all areas of development. The meeting touched upon a number of issues listed on the agenda of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
