Foreign Ministry holds preparatory meeting for 64th IAEA General Conference

Manama, Sept. 20 (BNA): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain held a virtual meeting with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), headed by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chairman of the National Committee on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction, Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa. The meeting coincides with the regular session of the 64th International Atomic Energy Agency General Conference on technical cooperation programmes between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the International Atomic Energy Agency, with the participation of a group of IAEA senior officials, headed by the Director of IAEA’s Department of Technical Cooperation Asia and the Pacific Division, Professor Jane Abaya, in addition to a number of concerned authorities in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Dr. Shaikha Rana expressed the Kingdom of Bahrain's appreciation for the efforts made by IAEA, and its support and assistance to member states through the technical cooperation programme in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy and the achievement of sustainable development goals, emphasising the commitment of the Kingdom of Bahrain to benefit from the technical cooperation programmes and the expansion of the concerned team. She also thanked the Technical Cooperation Programme team for the workshops and side meetings that were held, which greatly contributed to the ease of presenting and following up on the programmes, while looking forward to holding fruitful future meetings. Professor Jane Abaya praised the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its commitment to the technical cooperation programme, and its constant desire to deliver projects and reports for the Kingdom of Bahrain on time, praising the speed of response and cooperation by the concerned authorities and specialists in the Kingdom of Bahrain, who contributed to providing the programmes and following up on them in the best possible way, noting the effective role of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the participation at the regional and international levels, which confirms the Kingdom of Bahrain's keenness to fully benefit from cooperation and joint coordination with the International Atomic Energy Agency in the peaceful fields of nuclear energy. They announced a group of visual programmes that the Kingdom of Bahrain will present in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency for workers of various relevant authorities.
