Foreign Ministry Organisations Director participates in AIS Forum Senior Officials Meeting

Manama, Nov. 10 (BNA): The Director of Organisations Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Fatema Abdulla Fares Al-Dhaen, participated in the 5th Senior Officials Meeting of the Archipelagic and Island States Forum, which was held virtually today, and was organised by the Republic of Indonesia. The meeting was held in preparation for the 3rd ministerial meeting of the Archipelagic and Island States Forum, which will be held on November 25 under the theme “Fostering Solidarity Between Archipelagic and Island States: Towards a Sustainable Ocean Future”. During the meeting, means of practical cooperation in exploring smart innovative solutions and nature-based outcomes were discussed in four thematic areas namely, sustainable ocean development, blue economy strategic cooperation, blue digital connectivity, and ocean sustainability investments. The meeting also cast light on concrete measures to address the repercussions of COVID-19 while maintaining economic growth. The final outputs were approved for presentation at the third ministerial meeting. It is worth noting that this AIS Forum was launched in 2017 to bring together 47 island and archipelagic countries for cooperation and exchange of expertise in a number of common areas, including: mitigating the effects of climate change and adapting to it and disaster management.
