Former Thai police chief "Sripisut" to run for Bangkok governor post

BANGKOK, August 25 (TNA) - Former national police chief Police General Seripisut Temiyavej has announced that he will contest for the post of Bangkok governor, as the four-year term of incumbent Democrat Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra will end in January 2013. Retired and ex-national police chief Police General Seripisut told journalists Saturday that he will run in next year's gubernatorial election as an independent candidate, saying that, if elected, he would administer the Thai capital with a new transparency system under which there would be no corruption. Outspoken Police General Seripisut, now head of ‘Bangkok Force’ group, was Thailand's national police chief in 2007 but was stripped of his post the following year by then prime minister Samak Sundaravej on alleged disciplinary violation charges. He had countered the charges and said he was robbed of his post. Meanwhile, incumbent Deputy Bangkok governor Dr. Malinee Sukavejworakit presided over the launching of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA)'s mobile medic services for people in the city at a school on the outskirts of the capital, under which the public are offered medical diagnosis and check-ups; while doctors also provide advice on drug addicted problem. Dr. Malinee revealed that such the services will be offered to communities in Bangkok twice a month and on a rotation basis. (TNA)
