Forum to discuss laying net to prevent sharks in Hua Hin

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, April 24 (TNA) – Hua Hin municipality will listen to opinions from all sides tomorrow to find conclusion on laying massive net to safeguard swimmers from sharks and poisonous jelly fish. Jirawat Prammanee, จีรวัฒน์ พราหมณี Hua Hin’s city clerk said that officials from the Hua Hin municipality, experts from the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources and Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Veterinary Science will meet with people at the Muang Hua Hin municipality school for a special forum on Wednesday. The meeting will clarify the plan to erect laying nets and buoys off Sai Noi beach for the safety of tourists without disturbing bull shark feeding areas following a shark attack on a foreign tourist there. Officials will also listen to public opinions on the issues. Wan Chatree, director of the marine resources conservation division said that under the plan, 200-metre-long buoys will be placed 50 metres off the coast. The installation of the 300-metre-long net near the beach will be done after the conclusion of the meeting tomorrow. The Hua Hin municipality set aside 400,000 baht budget for the plan. A souvenir shop owner at the Khao Tao community said the news about shark feeding near the coastline brought more tourists to the areas, even after the Songkran holiday, when normally, the number of tourists will drop and she earned less income. More tourists come here, hoping to spot sharks, she said. (TNA)
