Frontier guard awards

Shymkent, October 14, 2009 (Khabar) - According to a Presidential Decree, 13 frontier guards, who had been participating in a special-forces raid on the Southern frontier of the country, have been awarded with medals. 10 of the guards received their medals posthumously. The awards ceremony in Shymkent started with the laying of a stone in Abai Park. In the future, it is planned to lay a memorial to all frontier guards, who were killed on duty. The chairman of the National Security Committee Amangeldy Shabdarbayev extended his sympathy to the families of those who were killed. The award ceremony happened in front of the Glory Obelisk.

At the beginning of September, a group of frontier guards was sent to the Ugam raven, where, according to the operation briefing, a group of criminals had crossed the Kazakhstan border. During the mission, a helicopter crashed and ten people were killed. All participants of the campaign were awarded with “Aibyn” orders and medals for bravery. The three frontier guards who survived received medals from the chairman of the National Security Committee. Apart from medals, the families of the deceased each received one million tenge. All the money was collected by the staff of the National Security Committee.
