Future Leaders Challenged To Resolve Social Gaps
Jakarta, March 26 (Antara) - National leaders have the tasks of and challenges to resolve social gaps, which have reached a critical stage, a participant of a presidential candidate convention stated.
"The social gaps in Indonesia have entered stadium four stage and a critical point," Ali Masykur Musa, a participant of a presidential convention of the ruling Democratic Party (PD) pointed out here on Wednesday.
He was speaking at a discussion on the "Public Test of 2014 Presidential Candidates: In Search of Qualified Young Leaders."
Musa explained that the main problem the Indonesian people were facing was justice. One of the four messages in the 1945 Constitution was how to create justice for the prosperity of the people.
Musa, a member of the State Audit Board (BPK), added that the high level of social gaps in Indonesia was due to the inequitable distribution of economic benefits among the people.
"The number of poor people in the country still account for 65 million while only a handful of people enjoy almost half the income in the country," he remarked.
Musa explained that such a social condition should not be a continuous phenomenon. This condition should be overcome soon by designing a mechanism on the equitable distribution of economic benefits.
"If the gaps are overcome, it will accelerate the journey of people`s prosperity," he added.
