Garbage collection in the Gulf of Thailand
PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, Feb 19 (TNA) – The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources office in Prachuap Khiri Khan have collected floating garbage patches and underwater trash off Thalu Island in Prachuap Khiri Khan after some garbage was washed ashore on the island.
Director of the Marine Resources Conservation Division, Wan Chatree said the authority worked with the diver network and tour operators in Bang Saphan Noi district in a mission to the clean up the garbage patches, floating off Thalu Island.
A stretch of 1.5 tonnes of garbage were collected in the mission while most of the trash are plastic and stereo foam products, ropes, parts of fishing gear and glass bottles.
Moreover, about 63 kgs of garbage were retrieved from the sea bed and those were swept to the beach of Thalu Island has been wiped out to prevent any impacts on environment and marine tourism. (TNA)
