GE15: King Calls On Malaysians In S'pore To Fulfill Voting Responsibilities

From Muhammad Saufee Rosman SINGAPURA, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysian King Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has called on Malaysians residing in Singapore to fulfill their responsibilities by voting in the 15th General Election (GE15) on Nov 19. "I would like to remind you of your responsibility to vote in the upcoming GE, although (you live) a little far away, you must still exercise your responsibilities as a voter," said His Majesty. Al-Sultan Abdullah said this during his speech at a dinner with the Malaysian diaspora at the Shangri-La Hotel here Thursday night. Also gracing the event were the Queen Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah and Their Majesties daughter Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Afzan Aminah Hafizatullah. The Election Commission (EC) has set Nov 19 as the polling date for GE15. Applications for all overseas and domestic postal vote categories were opened on Oct 10, with postal vote applications for category 1B (Malaysian citizens living abroad) and category 1C (agencies/organisations) to be carried out online. The closing date for applications is Nov 2 for category 1A (election officials, EC members/officers, police, military, and media personnel); Oct 23 for category 1B; and Oct 26 for category 1C. Meanwhile, Al-Sultan Abdullah also expressed his appreciation to Malaysians living in Singapore who helped each other in various ways during the COVID-19 pandemic. Also present at the dinner were Foreign Ministry secretary-general Amran Mohamed Zin as the liaison officer, Transport Ministry secretary-general Isham Ishak and Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore Dr Azfar Mohamad Mustafar. The king and queen are currently on a four-day state visit to Singapore that ends Friday. The visit reflects the close and special bilateral relationship enjoyed between Malaysia and Singapore dating back 57 years. -- BERNAMA
