Georgian Airways launches Bahrain service with inaugural flight

Manama, (BNA): Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the operator and managing body of Bahrain International Airport (BIA), welcomed the arrival of Georgia’s flag carrier, Georgian Airways, following the commencement of its direct service between Tbilisi and Bahrain. The airline will operate a service between Tbilisi International Airport and BIA twice a week for the next nine months. Georgian Airways is the second carrier to operate the route out of BIA, which reflects the destination’s increasing popularity among GCC nationals and residents who can now obtain a visa on arrival. Chief Commercial Officer, Ayman Zainal said: "We are delighted to add another route to Tbilisi and look forward to working with Georgian Airways to offer the best possible passenger experience to its customers. The 25-year relationship between our two countries has only grown stronger over time, as demonstrated by the appointment of Bahrain’s first ambassador to Georgia in January this year. We hope this new partnership with Georgian Airways will further enhance trade and tourism between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Georgia." Developing new routes and cargo operations out of BIA is a top priority for BAC and its partners. With the launch of the new Passenger Terminal Building in Q3 2019, BAC expects to attract further interest from leading airlines wishing to explore the potential of adding new routes linking Bahrain to the rest of the world. Last year saw a marked increase in new airlines operating out of BIA, including Ethiopian Airlines, Atlas Global Airlines, and Wataniya Airways. In July this year, BIA welcomed the arrival of Azerbaijan Airlines and the addition of 12 new routes by various airlines, bringing the airport’s total number of destinations up to 53.
