Georgian Iranologist Chkheidze dies at 84

TEHRAN, Nov. 10 (MNA) -- The renowned Georgian expert of Iranian studies Teo Chkheidze died at the age of 84 last week. He was buried in a cemetery in the Georgian capital Tbilisi on Wednesday. Iranian cultural attaché in Georgia Ehsan Khazaei and Georgian consul in Tehran Nikoloz Nakhutsrishvili and a number of other officials attended his funeral service. Former ambassador of Georgia to Tehran and professor at the Institute of Oriental Studies Jemshid Giunashvili, distinguished Georgian linguist and orientalist Tamaz V. Gamkrelidze, Georgi Sanikidze of Georgia’s Institute of Oriental Studies and several other scholars were also in attendance at the ceremony. Chkheidze was a professor of the Institute of Oriental Studies at Tbilisi State University who had written several books and articles on Iranian culture and literature. He had also composed a Persian-Georgian dictionary in 2009.
