Germany, Thailand to join hands in food safety and standards
BANGKOK, February 6 (TNA) - Thailand and Germany have agreed to level up bilateral cooperation on food safety and standards and on farm zoning.
The agreement was announced after German Ambassador to Thailand Rolf Sculze paid a courtesy call on new Thai Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Yukol Limlaemthong in Bangkok on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the top German envoy and the Thai minister discussed the bilateral cooperation, developed from last year when Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra paid an official visit to Germany and sought for the European power's technical assistance, covering knowledge and technological transfer in the fields of food safety and standards in order to enhance Thailand's efficiency in developing Thai food exports to meet internationally-recognized criteria.
Based on the agreement, a team of German experts is scheduled to visit Thailand next month to provide guidances for Thai officials.
The Thai side also sought for Germany’s technical support regarding farm zoning techniques for economic crops. (TNA)
