Getting justice for her son's murder

Lee Bok-soo, the mother of a university student stabbed to death at a hamburger joint in 1997, speaks to the press after a Seoul court on Jan. 29, 2016, sentenced a U.S. suspect to 20 years in jail for the murder. Arthur Patterson was found guilty of murdering Cho Joong-pil at a Burger King in downtown Seoul for no apparent reason. The court said it could not punish Edward Lee, his accomplice, because of double jeopardy. Lee was initially charged with Cho's murder, but he was acquitted by the Supreme Court. Known as the "Itaewon murder," named after the neighborhood of the scene of the crime, the case had been riddled with lapses by Seoul prosecutors that allowed Patterson to flee to the U.S. and extradition problems with the U.S. (Yonhap) (END)
