Astana, November 2, 2009 (Khabar) - Issues of economic recovery and grain exports topped the agenda at a government video conference in Astana. The cabinet is now planning to finish the year showing positive indices. An increase in production volumes can now be seen in all spheres while energy and coal fields are the only ones still behind the figures. The Energy ministry promised to close the gap in indices before the end of this year.
Lyazzat Kiinov, deputy minister for Energy and Mineral resources of RK:
- We are currently supplying 300 mega/watts of electricity from the Yekibastuz Hydroelectric Power Station to the Russian Federation. We are now also talking about a possibility of increasing this figure to 500 mega/watts. Over the past 9 months, the Republic’s coal producers have extracted 64.4 million tons of coal which is 11.5 million tons or 15.2% higher than the same period last year. Now, the volume of coal supplies to Russia has normalized after a decrease in consumption last year.
Kazakhstan grain export issues are also to be solved before the end of this week. In order to support exporters, the government has taken the decision to use 5 billion tenge to lower railway tariffs for grain transport.
Karim Massimov, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan:
- We and the Grain Union as well as large grain producers are considering the possibility of selling grain through banks. I ask you to work out this issues with all interested companies so we can finally solve the issue at the next cabinet meeting at the end of this week.
This week, Karim Massimov is also planning to meet Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Sidorski in the city of Aktobe to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation. The two prime ministers are also expected to discuss the beginning of work of the customs union featuring Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
