Harvest - 2009
Taraz, October 10, 2009 (Khabar) - The peasants of Zhambyl region have gathered in the harvest about 600 million tons of wheat. That is an unprecedented crop for the area where vegetables are basically grown. Now grain-growers are engaged in realization of grain and sow the winter cultures. Vakha Abdullaev has hit all the records this year. His co-operative society has collected a good harvest.
Vakha Abdullaev, the chairman of co-operative society «Kyzyl dikhan»:
- The year was successful because weather was good. It was a lot of rain and, the most important thing, rains were on time. We have bought seeds for 40 tenge when their cost was 70, so the state has paid 30 tenge for each kilogram. We also bought niters and the 40 per cent of its cost was financed by the government. And also there are subsidies for sowing.
The part of the harvest of the third category crop is bought by “Prodkorporatsiya”. And despite the fact that its price is lower grain-growers are assured that all the expenses are proved.
Yermek Usenbayev, vice-mayor of Zhambyl region:
- This year a grain yield as did not happen - 27 centners from hectare. It is five times more than last year. We have concluded the contract with "Prodkoporatsiya". We were given a quota on 23 thousand tons of grain and we will hand over.
The other part of crop will go on local mills. One of millers, Salizhan Imanzhanov, has already bought about 25 thousand tons of grain.
Salizhan Imanzhanov, the head of flour-grinding company "Zar-Zamin":
- If last year we had about 10-15 thousand tons of grain, this year we plan to put somewhere about of 50-60 thousand tons.
Now peasants’ main task is to sell the crop and to sow fields by a winter wheat. A part of works have already been done. Grain-growers say that weather helps them too.
