Health Minister receives WHO representative’s credentials

Manama, July 15 (BNA): Health Minister Faeqa bint Saeed Al Saleh received Dr. Tasnim Atatrah who presented her credentials as the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative and Head of Office in Bahrain. The minister praised the WHO efforts in facing the coronavirus pandemic and its important and prominent role in supporting the efforts of countries across the world to develop health and treatment services and combat epidemics and diseases, stressing that the ministry will provide all the necessary support to the organization to achieve the set objectives. She congratulated Dr. Atatrah on this important international position, wishing her success in her position. The Minister welcomed the official visit of Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, and Dr. Ahmed Al Mandhari, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, after Eid Al Adha on the occasion of the official opening of the WHO office in Bahrain, The Director-General will be briefed on the measures taken by the Kingdom to confront this virus. Health Ministry Undersecretary Dr. Walid Al Manea stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation, work and coordination between the Ministry of Health and WHO and highlighted the government’s continuous support to the health sector and its keenness to provide all high-standard health services to citizens and residents with high quality. This has led to numerous achievements in the health field, the efficiency of primary and secondary health care systems and qualified Bahraini nationals working in various health facilities, he said. The ministry is exerting great efforts for the safety and health of all people in Bahrain and the presence of a World Health Organization office in the Kingdom will contribute to developing health services and strengthening health efforts, he added. Al Atatrah commended Bahrain’s efforts in the health sector at all levels and in confronting the coronavirus through precautionary and preventive measures in line with the WHO recommendations. She pointed out to Bahrain’s success thanks to the efforts led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in addressing COVID-19 and mitigating its repercussions. She expressed keen aspiration for wider cooperation and coordination between WHO and the Ministry of Health and wished the Kingdom further progress and prosperity.
