"History in 100 faces"
Almaty, 28 June 2008, Khabar - Almaty is now staging an exhibition entitled History in 100 faces with the display having a double meaning. The exposition clearly shows the development of cities - former capitals of Kazakhstan with the first section being devoted to Orenburg.
It was the capital city of Kazakhstan for only 5 years in the last century and then the
capital moved to Ak-Mechet which is now Kyzylorda. During that time, the
city was a perfect capital in terms of its geographical layout and transport communication.
It also became the first city to house state cultural
institutions such as the Auyezov Drama Theatre. In 1927, Alma-Ata became
the capital city of Kazakhstan and the stand devoted to this event
demonstrates how a province city of the Zailiyskiy Alatau gradually turned
into the largest cultural, tourist and financial centre of Kazakhstan.
During the early years of Kazakhstan's independence, the country once again
faced the issue of moving the capital city with Akmola having been chosen as
the new main city of the Republic.
The city is situated on the intersection
of two main transport routes passing through the heart of the country.
Exposition organisers tried their best to show the past, the present and to
imagine the future of Astana. The exhibition's visitors will be able to
enjoy the history of all the capital cities of Kazakhstan until the end of summer.
Meanwhile, the exposition organisers say their work will help school
pupils, students and other guests at the museum to understand all the stages
of the capital city's development more deeply.
Yermek Dzhasybayev, research fellow, Centre for studying history of
Kazakhstan, Central State Museum of RK:
- It displays not only the capital cities but also certain people, their
personal belonging and various materials all are exhibited here.
The exposition is more like a photo display but they all will be picked from the
central fund of Kazakhstan and depict the history of formation of Kazakhstan 's capital cities. (Khabar Agency)
