Hotline and email to report foreign interference in elections

Manama, Oct.24 (BNA): The Director-General of Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic Security has today announced that as part of the national partnership to protect the elections, due on November 24, from foreign interference or the use of money for negative purposes which was against the Kingdom’s national values, citizens should report such cases on hotline 992 or via email 992@interior.gov.bh. All information will be treated as confidential.
He said his call followed the intensive and continuous media reports on the Qatari and Iranian moves to influence parliamentary elections in a number of countries, including recent elections in Lebanon and Iraq, to secure outcome in favour of those using money to achieve their purposes, ignoring the Arab citizens’ right to elect their parliamentary representatives.
The Director-General said the laws regulating the elections in all countries and leading democracies penalised political moves to use money to buy votes in order to undermine the citizens and their electoral rights. (MOI)
