Housing Minister participates in UN-Habitat meeting

Nairobi, May 27 (BNA): Housing Minister Bassim bin Yaqoob Al Hamar presided Bahrain’s delegation in the opening session of the first UN-Habitat Assembly meeting which convened in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, in the presence of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Maimunah Sharif and members of the General Assembly. The opening session speeches focused on the importance of holding the meeting and its impact on implementing the new urban agenda and the sustainable development goals (SDGs) 2030. The speakers expressed keenness on cooperation of the government bodies, the international organisations and the civil society organisations to achieve the goals. The Housing Minister is set to deliver a speech before the UN-Habitat General Assembly tomorrow highlighting Bahrain’s efforts in carrying out the SDGs through plans implemented by the government. The Housing Minister held a work meeting with the UN-Habitat Executive Director Maimunah Sharif and discussed with her ongoing cooperation mainly in the housing and urban development field.
