Huge haul of Siamese rosewood seized in Bangkok

BANGKOK, April 26 (TNA) – Police seized 500 logs of protected Phayung or Siamese rosewood, worth about 20 million baht in the bust at a warehouse in Lat Krabang district. Deputy national police chief Pol Gen Chalermkiart Srivorakhan and forestry officials raided the warehouse and found the timber, electric saws, guns and ammunition. Six men were caught but no one claimed to be the owner of the wood. All of them were charged with having wood from protected tree species in their possession. The police believed that they were hired by a major timber trader, who procures the wood in Thailand for export to another country. (TNA)
