Human rights development in Bahrain highlighted

Manama, Jan. 26 (BNA): The Assistant Foreign Minister, Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabur Al Doseri, affirmed Bahrain's readiness to participate in the 15th session of the Arab League Human Rights Committee, on January 28-29, at the League of Arab States’ Headquarters in Cairo. The delegation participating in the session will be led by the Assistant Foreign Minister with the membership of a number of relevant official bodies. The delegation will discuss the report submitted by Bahrain in 2016 on the progress made in the development and promotion of human rights in the Kingdom, in addition to answering the Committee’s inquiries in this regard. Al Doseri asserted the commitment of the Kingdom to its Arab and international obligations as it believes in the effective mechanisms of the Arab League in promoting human rights in the Arab world. He noted that Bahrain, as a result of the reform approach of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, has recorded many achievements in the fields of democracy and guaranteeing public rights and freedoms. He also highlighted the Kingdom’s political, economic and social development in various fields, including education, health, communication, information and sustainable development. Bahrain is the 3rd Arab country to ratify the Arab Charter on Human Rights, which came into force on March 16, 2008, with the ratification of seven other Arab countries. The Kingdom submitted its initial report in 2012 as party states submit their first report to the Charter Committee within one year from the date of their ratification, which in turn considers the report and the measures taken by the state parties to implement the rights and freedoms set out in the Charter.
