Human rights organisations urge Qatar to release lawyer Dr. Hazza bin Ali Al Merri

Manama, Sep.29 (BNA): The Arab African Human Rights Group (AAHRG) and five other regional and internations rights organisations called on the authorities in Doha and the Amir of Qatar Shaikh Tamim Al Thani to release prisoners of opinion from Al Murrah tribe, notably Dr. Hazza bin Ali Al Merri.
In a joint statement issued today, they said that other organizations, such Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, had issued a statement condemning the plight of prisoners of opinion in Qatar due to the discriminatory electoral law and voiced their deep concerns.
The The Arab African Human Rights Group (AAHRG) and the five other rights organisations said they urged the Amir of Qatar to stop human rights violations and the arbitrary arrest of human rights advocates, journalists, lawyers, and activist, who are being detained just for exercising the legitimate rights and denounced the discriminating law on the Shura Council elections.
The organisations which undersigned the statement said that this step is timely to expose the deterioration of human rights in Qatar, calling on the authorities in Doha to release all the detainees immediately and unconditionally.
“It is time for the Qatari authorities to guarantee the rights to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly, and to break the cycle of impunity for perpetrators of grave human rights violations”, said the joint statement.
