iGA showcases Bahrain's cloud migration experience at AWS re:Invent 2022 in UN

Las Vegas, Dec. 1 (BNA): The Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), showcased its cloud migration experience at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) re:Invent 2022 conference. iGA Deputy CEO, Operations & Governance Dr. Khalid A. Almutawah and Director, Government Systems Support & Maintenance Directorate Hesham Ebrahim AlHashemi led the Bahrain delegation. The event discussed the latest cloud computing technologies during more than 1,500 sessions. The conference touched on topics such as cloud architecture, data architecture, improving infrastructure operating methods, cloud migration methods, machine learning, and more. Almutawah highlighted Bahrain’s experience with AWS cloud migration as part of the Kingdom’s Cloud-First policy, which was launched in line with the government's directives and support. This allowed the iGA, in partnership with other government agencies, to expand its investment in AWS’s cloud services, which have helped improve and upgrade government processes in fields such as education, health, justice, business, and public services. Dr. Al Mutawa said that through the iGA, the Kingdom has been able to migrate 70% of the operations and systems of 72 government agencies to AWS within three years. It also completed the total migration of operations for 23 governmental and non-governmental entities to the cloud and helped four newly established government agencies launch their cloud-based technical infrastructure. These measures have supported the Kingdom's goals of adopting new technologies and investing in cloud computing to help develop the technology sector, and its adoption of advanced technology and systems, to help improve the quality of life of individuals and provide higher quality services. Dr. Almutawa stressed the impact the AWS cloud migration has had in terms of reducing spending, improving flexibility in the management of resources, ease-of-use benefits that the licenses offer, and providing cyber security systems that conform to international standards. He said that government entities’ adoption of cloud computing has improved the efficiency of government spending, accelerated the pace of innovation, and enhanced cyber security levels.
