IINA Eyes Greater Cooperation With Bernama

From Muammar Eusoffi Zainol Abidin JEDDAH, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- The International Islamic News Agency (IINA) wants to take the existing cooperation with the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) to greater heights. The aspiration was conveyed by IINA director-general Issa Khaireh Robleh to Bernama general manager Zulkifli Salleh during the latter’s visit to IINA headquarters here Thursday. “Bernama is a strong and stable news agency...it is important for us to exchange our expertise in various fields,” he told Bernama after the visit. Issa also expressed hope that Bernama would give its support to IINA which had formulated a 10-year plan to improve its service to IINA members including Bernama, which also has an Arabic News Desk. Also present during the visit were Bernama News Channel (BNC) chief operating officer Hakimi Mohd Zain, as well as BNC chief assignment editor Abdul Rahman Ahmad and cameraman Ahmad Shahuri Mat Jaan – both of whom participated in the Kembara Inspirasi Haji (KIH) land convoy, which travelled 16,000km across eight countries to reach the Holy Land. Issa also invited Bernama to attend the 5th IINA Annual General Assembly scheduled for mid-October. Meanwhile, Zulkefli lauded the aspiration of IINA, which is patronised by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to work more closely with Bernama, saying that he believed the agency could play a more effective role in disseminating news to Islamic countries. He said the cooperation would also strengthen the ties among Islamic news agencies under the IINA. During the visit, Bernama’s delegation was also given a briefing on the agency’s operation by Issa and IINA director-general’s executive assistant Akram Ameen. They also visited the IINA Editorial Department, as well as its French, Arabic and English divisions. (photoBERNAMA) -- BERNAMA
