India Offers Scholarships For Malaysian Students

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- India is offering scholarships to Indian students from Malaysia to pursue tertiary studies for the 2017-2018 academic year. According to a statement from the High Commission of India to Malaysia, students wishing to pursue professional and general courses at Indian universities could apply for the scholarship. “The Scholarship Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC) is open to persons of Indian origin (PIOs), non-resident Indians (NRIs) and children of Indian workers in Malaysia,” it said. The scholarships are open to applicants, aged between 17 to 21 years, and the deadline for application is on Sept 30. Selection will be based exclusively on merit and only applications submitted online at the SPDC portal, spdcindia.gov.in along with the required documents will be accepted. It said the list of selected candidates would be posted on the portal of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the government of India at www.mea.gov.in. In the first year, the scholarship provides partial financial assistance of 75 per cent of the Institutional Economic Cost (IEC) or US$ 3,600 to US$ 4,000 per year which includes tuition fees, hostel fee and other institutional charges, the statement said. -- BERNAMA
