Indonesia Agency Destroy 308 Kg Seized Drugs

By Mohd Iswandi Kasan Anuar JAKARTA, June 9 (Bernama) -- Indonesia's National Narcotics Agency (BNN) on Thursday destroyed nearly 308 kg methamphetamine and 29,482 ecstasy pills seized in March and May this year. The drugs were seized following the arrests of 13 people in Aceh, Medan, North Jakarta and South Tangerang, according to the agency in a statement. BNN head Petrus Reinhard Golose said 300,000 people could use the drugs, while demand for ecstasy pill, namely Happy Five, remaining high. Therefore, the agency encourages communities to continue to cooperate in the war against drugs. The ceremony to destroy the drugs was held today ahead of International Day Against Drug Abuse, also known as World Drug Day, celebrated annually on June 26. -- BERNAMA
