Indonesia-China In Agreement On Responsibility For Regional Security

By Ahmad Fuad Yahya JAKARTA, March 2 (Bernama) -- Indonesia and China agree that, as two large nations in the Asian region, they are responsible for the security, stability and well-being of the area through close bilateral and regional cooperation. The accord was achieved at the Third Bilateral Dialogue between Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Law and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto and Member of the 17th CPC Central Committee, (State Councillor) of China, Dai Bingguo, in Beijing, Tuesday. Both the leaders also agreed that, since Indonesia and China established a strategic partnership in 2005, their bilateral cooperation had significantly improved. "Indonesia and China are confident that, in the midst of a global crisis, this strategic partnership is capable of minimising the effects and possibly create opportunties to oercome it. "As such, both the leaders urged the two countries to expand cooperation in politics, law, defence, economy, trade and socio-culture by rejuvenating the existing bilateral cooperation mechanism," said the Indonesian Foreign Ministry in a statement here Thursday The implementation of the Bilateral Dialogue was evaluated as successful by China's Prime Minister Wen Jiabao who said this during a courtesy call by Suyanto the same day, the statement added. -- BERNAMA
