Indonesian Police Receive Threats From Daesh Militants

By Azeman Ariffin JAKARTA, July 5 (Bernama) -- After relentless attacks on Indonesian police personnel, the Daesh militant group in the country has come out with another bold move by hanging its own flag on the fence of a police station and leaving behind a threatening letter. According to online media here, the incident occurred at the Kebayoran Lama district police station in South Jakarta early Tuesday. A policeman on patrol at the police station stumbled on the flag representing the militant group at 5.30am. In addition, a yellow paper was found pasted nearby which contained a threatening message to turn Jakarta ala Marawi in the southern Philippines. Marawi, a city on Mindanao Island, has been placed under a state of emergency following an ongoing battle between Philippine special forces and the Maute group, which has been linked to Daesh. Jakarta’s Metro Jaya district police Community Relations Division chief Argo Yuwono was quoted as saying that among the gist of the message on the piece of paper was to take down the (current) ‘jahiliah’ (ignorant) laws and replace them with the laws of Allah. He said police were unperturbed by the act as they had always been prepared to face any possibility, and that the police station was indeed a target of such groups who wanted to bring in chaos. Police were now reviewing the footage of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the area and recording statements from several witnesses in the vicinity, he said. Last Sunday, two policemen were stabbed by a militant during evening prayers at a mosque near the republic's police headquarters here. Last month, three policemen were killed in a suicide bomb blast by a man at a bus station in Kampung Melayu in East Jakarta. -- BERNAMA
