Interior Minister receives WCO Secretary-General

Manama, Feb. 24 (BNA): Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa today received the Secretary-General of the World Customs Organisation (WCO), Dr. Kunio Mikuriya. President of Customs Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa attended. The Interior Minister welcomed the WCO official’s visit that comes is part of interaction and exchange of views. He hailed the organisation's role in promoting cooperation among member countries to face the impacts of COVID-19. He highlighted the importance of utilising modern technology to protect borders and build customs capabilities by facilitating procedures and adopting the best practices. He valued the role of Bahrain's Customs among frontline bodies in facing the pandemic and offering quality customs services to support the national economy. WCO Secretary-General hailed the support of Bahrain, expressing appreciation to the President of Customs as the Chairperson of the organisation. He highlighted the coordination role of the WCO in fighting the impacts of COVID-19 in coordination with the World Health Organisation.
