International Conference On Malay Language In Uzbekistan

IPOH (Perak, Malaysia), July 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysian public university, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) will organise the fifth edition of the International Conference to Empower the Malay Language (PAMBM) at the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages (USWLU) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan for two days beginning July 21. UPSI said in a statement that the organisation of the PAMBM through the Department of Malay Language and Literature, the Faculty of Languages and Communications also received the cooperation of the Malaysian Embassy in Uzbekistan and the Foreign Language (Malay Language) Department, USWLU with the theme 'Beautifying Language and Enriching Culture (Memperindah Bahasa dan Memperkaya Budaya). The statement also said UPSI had been the organisers of the conference since 2012 and later, the Goethe-University Frankfurt, Germany was chosen as the venue for the conference in 2015. "Foreign universities are chosen as the venue for the conference which aims to expand the Malay language internationally in a dynamic manner to achieve various functions whether in Malaysia or abroad. "At the same time, the organisation of the conference is seen to be able to raise the capability of the Malay language as an international language and subsequently create understanding and cooperation with foreign international institutions,” the statement said. The statement added that USWLU was selected because the university taught the Malay language as a second language since 1996. The conference is scheduled to be officially opened by Uzbekistan's First Deputy Minister for High and Medium Educational Specialisation, Begimkulov Uzoqboy. PAMBM this time around will be chaired by the Head of the Department of Malay Language and Literature, Faculty of Languages and Communications UPSI, Associate Prof Dr Norliza Jamaluddin. Conference participants comprise academicians, language experts in various disciplines, specialist teachers, students and lovers of the Malay language from various local and foreign institutions. -- BERNAMA
