International Conference Resumes for the Defence of Al Quds Resumes Activities

Doha , February 27 (QNA) - The works of the International Conference for the Defence of Al Quds , resumed here Monday. The four committees of the conference will continue to discuss a number of topics including the role of civil societies in defending Al Quds. Some 350 personalities representing 70 countries participated in the conference. The committee on the role of civil societies in defending Al Quds discussed the media's role in facing the bias towards Israel in the West. The committee suggested a working plan to reveal the Western media's bias towards Israel. Dr. Ibrahim Al zafarani. who is the Secretary-General of the Aid and Emergency Committee in the Arab Doctors Union in Egypt, said in an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the United Nations made a "mistake" when they refused to declare Israel a racist state. He stressed that the international community must treat Israel as such. The committee also discussed the development of the holy city. Members of the Committee agreed that the people of Al Quds need to express their demands in the field of health, education, infrastructure as well as rebuilding the destroyed houses, before a decision can be made by the committee. The Committee concerned with Al Quds and its history, reviewed a number of documents, that go back to the times of the Ottoman Empire, the matter which clearly reveal that the Israelis have no heritage in Al Quds. The committee's members said that as a result, history must be reviewed without the "falsification" of history. The members of the committee also said that the claim of Palestine being the promised land was a "trick" that has no basis in history. The committee included a number of historians, priests and rabbis who exchanged their knowledge of Al Quds. They called on displaying the documents to the world to let the international community to know the real history of the holy city of Al Quds. For his part, Secretary-General of Arab Archeologists Mohammed Al Kahlawi, who is also an Archeology professor at Cairo University, told QNA that Al Quds is an "occupied city", based on all the international documents. He said that there was an Israeli plan that aims at changing the demography of the holy city to isolate its real citizens in favour of Israelis. He added that the world was witnessing a state of "human and rock extermination", referring to how the Israeli government has sought to obliterate any evidence of the Palestinians right to Al Quds. Meanwhile Italian Professor of Arabic History at the University of Palermo Dr. Antonino backed claims that Zionists had little right to Al Quds. He said that Italy, and the Vatican City in particular, had a number of documents that would complement the ones viewed by the committee today. Prof. Antonino said that he asked the committee to cooperate with the Italian and Arabic universities in order to re-write the history of Al Quds and counter Zionist's claims that people of Al Quds were "out of history." The committee concerned with Al Quds and International law discussed a number of topics all relating to the means of implementing the resolutions each of the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly adopted in favour of Al Quds. They also reviewed a topic entitled the sovereignty of Al Quds, pre and post 1967. They also studied the historical development of Al Quds as part of the West Bank. The committee members considered the separation of Al Quds from the West Bank an illegitimate act that goes against all Security Council resolutions, particularly resolutions Nos. 242, 225 and 267 as well as the General Assembly's resolutions, particularly Nos.2253 and 2245. The committee's members also reviewed the legal position of Israel's settlement in Al Quds. They reached the conclusion that the settlement policy is illegitimate and illegal as per the UN resolutions. All the members stressed that Israel is an occupying force, and as a result they said israel is obliged to respect the laws of military occupation. One of the main laws, according to the members, was guaranteeing "a normal course of life" on the occupied land. However the committee members stressed that the city has enough legal, political and historical position that is unmatched by any other city. The International Conference for the Defence of Al Quds will conclude later today after the participators issue the Doha Declaration on Al Quds. (QNA)
