Int'l Day of Handicrafts Opens In Tehran

Tehran, June 9, IRNA – Ceremonies commemorating the International Day of Handicrafts kicked off here on Saturday in the presence of First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi. Some 31 top Iranian artists will be awarded during the event which is taking place at Tehran’s permanent International Fairgrounds. The International Expert–Export Festival and Exhibition of the Iranian Handicrafts is currently underway at Tehran’s permanent International Fairgrounds. Eight world countries are showcasing their numerous artworks during the event. The event opened on June 6 and will be wrapped up on June 12. Kilim, pottery, wooden furniture, hand-made glass and pendants are among Iran's main exported handicrafts items. Iran has some 257 handicraft items on its national heritage list and over 116 of its works have received the UNESCO Award of Excellence./end
