Intl Red Cross Displays Historical Photos JAKARTA, Sept 21 (Antara) - International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has opened a photo exhibition under a theme of The 70 Years ICRC With Indonesia held in Jakarta on September 19 - 23, 2016. "Since Indonesia's independence 71 years ago ICRC has been facing the challenges together with Indonesia," the Head of the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to Indonesia and East Timor, Christoph Sutter, said here on Tuesday. The photos showcase the historical episodes of Indonesia and humanitarian mission carried out by ICRC and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI). There are seven parts of the photo exhibition, namely 1929-1942 that shows the World War II and the early journey of Indonesia. The period of 1950--1964 on the role of the ICRC and PMI in the repatriation of Dutch citizens from Indonesia as well as the formal recognition of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) as part of the International Red Cross and the Red Crescent Movement. The periode of 1965--1974 on the failed coup involving the Communist Party and the insecurity occurred in Pontianak and Singkawang (West Kalimantan). The period of 1975-1989 on Indonesia's struggle to integrate East Timor into the nation after Portugal left the region and the arrival of Indochina refugees in Indonesia. The period of 1990-2003 on ICRC President's visit to Indonesia and the launch of the ICRC's program for war widows and victims of violence. The period of 2004-2005 on the Indian Ocean tsunami and the period of 2006 to the present on the portrait of Indonesia today. The exhibition stresses the importance of development and revival of humanity and shows Indonesia's diversity, tolerance and resilience in healing and overcoming old wounds, Sutter said.
