Iran Attends Int’l Seminar On Amir Khusrau Dehlawi in Aligarh

New Delhi, March 6, IRNA – Iran participated in the International Seminar on Amir Khusrau Dehlawi which kicked off Wednesday at Aligarh Muslim University in Aligarh city of North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The Persian Gulf country was represented by Gholam Ali Haddad Adil, former Speaker of Parliament of Iran, Dr. Gholam Raza Mahdavi, Vice Chancellor of Al-Mustafa International University of Iran (India Branch) and Dr. Ali Fauladi, Cultural Counselor at Iran Embassy in India. Highlighting Khusrau’s contribution and love for humanity, they (Iranian dignitaries) noted that the great poet stands distinctively amidst the towering figures. His thoughtful analysis, explanations and spiritual messages will never be lost and will enlighten today world. The three-day seminar, on the “Literary and Cultural Dynamics of Khusrau’s Thought and Art” was organized by the Institute of Persian Research of the Aligarh Muslim University. Beside the galaxy of dignitaries from the hosts university, distinguished scholar Prof. David Mathews of School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London, UK and a large number of delegates from Iran, Afghanistan, Tajkistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, UK and USA are participating in international seminar. Amir Khusrau Dehlawi, a prolific classical poet associated with royal courts of more than seven rulers of Delhi Sultanate wrote poetry primarily in Persian language. He enjoyed fame in the field of Persian poetry. Khusrau is regarded as the ˈfather of qawwaliˈ (the devotional music of the Indian Sufis). He is also credited with enriching Indian classical music by introducing Persian and Arabic elements in it, and was the originator of the khayal and tarana styles of music. The seminar aimed to provide an opportunity of better understanding of the work and contributions of Khusrau. Amir Khusrau, one of the most versatile personalities of medieval India, was born in 1253 in a place called Patiyali, in Uttar Pradesh state./end
