Iran exports 20m tons petrochemicals

Bushehr, April 13, IRNA – Managing Director of Nouri Petrochemical Company Taqi Sanei said on Saturday that 20m tons petrochemicals worth $10.6b were exported over the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20). Taqi Sanei said that from among 56 active petrochemical units, 20 units in Mahshahr, 16 units in Asaluyeh and other units in Iran produce 50m tons petrochemicals annually. He added that 60 petrochemical units are under construction which will boost production capacity to 120 million tons per year. Sanei said that supplying the feed has been the main problem of the petrochemical units. Thanks to the existence of oil and gas resources in Iran, petrochemical industry is regarded as Iran's economic doctrine, he noted. He went on to say that Pars Special Economic Energy Zone Company (PSEEZ) with 16 petrochemical units in olefin, ammonia and methanol is categorized as biggest production units in the world. Earlier Iranian President Hassan Rouhani inaugurated three major industrial projects in southern Province of Bushehr. Three petrochemical projects, namely the third phase of Pardis Petrochemical project, Methanol Unit of Marjan Petrochemicals, and the first phase of Damavand Petrochemical Power Plant were inaugurated by the Iranian president in Asaluyeh. More than 400 jobs will be created as the three projects become operational. The power plant is to supply the electricity and steam power required for 24 petrochemical complexes in PSEEZ (Pars Special Energy Economic Zone) through four gas turbines and three boilers. Asaluyeh is located on the shore of the Persian Gulf some 270 km SE of the provincial capital of Bushehr. It is best known as the site for the land based facilities of the huge PSEEZ (Pars Special Energy Economic Zone) project. Follow us on Twitter @IrnaEnglish
