Iran plans to establish foundation for resistance and revolution cinema

TEHRAN,May 2(MNA) -- Iran plans to establish a foundation to support films on the themes of resistance and Islamic revolution and awakening in the near future, Iran Cinema Organization director said on Monday. “The charter of the foundation has been submitted for approval by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution,” Javad Shamaqdari said during the closing ceremony of the first Islamic Revolution Screenwriting Festival in Tehran. “Cinema is an absolute necessity from the viewpoint of the system, and it is our duty to find an appropriate response to the concerns of the revolutionary people in cinema,” added Shamaqdari, who was appointed to Iran Cinema Organization which was officially established in February. The organization replaced the office of the deputy culture minister for cinematic affairs, which was being helmed by Shamaqdari. He referred to the 30th Fajr International Film Festival, Iran’s most important cinematic event which was held in Tehran in February, and said, “It is very painful for all of us that there was no film about the Islamic Revolution at this festival.” However, he said that it is difficult for our filmmakers to create the certain atmosphere dominated Iran during the reign of Iran’s former monarch, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. “For example, it is impossible to depict women of the Shah’s court with hijab (Islamic dress code),” he added. Shamaqdari called on political groups to raise their tolerance to the different views on the various events of the Islamic Revolution.
