Iran to write to Academy over anti-Islam film

TEHRAN,Sept.22(MNA) -- Iran’s Farabi Cinematic Foundation (FCF) planned to write a letter to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to speak out against the anti-Islam movie posted on the Internet about ten days ago. The amateurish movie “Innocence of Muslims” originating in the United States has provoked Muslims’ outrage across the world over past ten days. The film insults the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S). “Along with a letter introducing Iran’s submission to the Academy Awards, we will also send a letter to the Academy to announce protests by the Iranian cinematic community over this flagrant act,” FCF Deputy Director Hassan Najjarian told on Friday. Iran’s submission to the Academy Awards is annually selected by the FCF. Last week, the foundation set up a committee to mull over a boycott of the 2013 Academy Awards in protest over the anti-Islam film. “We protest some Hollywood policies, but we found no connection between Hollywood and this film… Thus, we will send a film to represent Iranian cinema at the 2013 Academy Awards,” Najjarian stated. The Iranian film “A Separation” directed by Asghar Farhadi won the Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2012 Academy Awards.
