Iranian ambassador, Iraqi deputy PM discuss energy issues

Baghdad, IRNA – Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Mohammad Kazem Al Sadeq and Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning Muhammed Ali Tamim, in a meeting in Baghdad on Monday, explored a wide range of issues including energy cooperation. They discussed the continuation of Iran’s gas and electricity exports to Iraq, the formation of joint inspection companies, IT, and e-government, as well as Iraq’s overdue debts to Iran and finding a mechanism for settlement of these debts and compensating the damages to Iranian technical and engineering companies. During the meeting, the Iranian ambassador voiced Tehran’s readiness for carrying out new power plant projects in Iraq and eagerness to share experiences on the efficient use of water resources and launching an independent internet network. The Iranian ambassador also called for further cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad on the implementation of the TIR Convention in bilateral transport. The Iraqi Ministry of Planning also issued a statement that said during the meeting, the two sides discussed the results of a recent visit to Iran by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani.
