Iranian author, translator Fereydun Dolatshahi dies at 74

TEHRAN,June 16(MNA) -- The renowned Iranian translator, author and journalist Fereydun Dolatshahi died of a stroke on June 12 at the age of 74. His body was laid to rest in Tehran’s Behesht Zahra Cemetery on Wednesday. A memorial service was held at the Safi-Alishah Mosque in Tehran on Friday. He studied international law in the UK. However, he pursued a career in literature after returning to his homeland. He began with the translation of several children’s books, which were published by Iran’s Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA). He collaborated with renowned book illustrator Farshid Mesqali and the multi-talented auteur Abbas Kiarostami. He also collaborated with the news department of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) for more than thirty years, and wrote and translated political articles for the Persian daily Ettela’at until his death. He translated more than 30 books and articles mostly on political science. He translated Philippe Legrain’s “Open World: The Truth about Globalization”, Richard Nixon’s “1999: Victory without War”, John Marks’ “The CIA and Mind Control” and several other books into Persian.
