Iranian cartoonist wins award at Canadian competition

TEHRAN,May 7(MNA) -- The Iranian cartoonist Ali Miraii has won one of the Awards of Excellence at the 12th World Press Freedom International Editorial Cartoon Competition in Canada. He received the award for his cartoon, which portrays a policeman trapped in a net of people connected to each other via a social network. The competition announced three winners and ten other cartoons received the Awards of Excellence. Liza França from Brazil won the First Prize of the event. The Second Prize of the festival went to Riber Hansson from Sweden. The Third Prize of the contest was given to Turkish cartoonist Hicabi Demirci. The theme for the 12th competition was “Power to the People: Citizens and Social Media”. The competition was held to mark World Press Freedom Day on May 3. The date was proclaimed World Press Freedom Day by the UN General Assembly in 1993.
