Iranian cultural figures attend conference on Babur in Tashkent

TEHRAN,June 13(MNA) – Two Iranian cultural figures attended an international conference on the role of the conqueror Zahir-ud-din Muhammad Babur (1483–1530) in history of world culture, which was held on June 10 and 11 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The Iranian cultural attaché in Tashkent Hamid Mostafavi and Ebrahim Khodayar of Tehran’s Tarbiat Modares University spoke during the conference at the venue of the National Library of Uzbekistan. Scholars from Russia, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Georgia, Egypt, France and several other countries attended the event. “Beside his skill in politics and militarism, Babur was also a prominent poet of the fifteenth century, who composed poems in Persian and Chagatai,” Mostafavi said. Khodayar also discussed the role of Babur in improvement of culture and civilization of Eastern nations during the fifteenth century. Babur was a conqueror from Central Asia who, following a series of setbacks, finally succeeded in laying the basis for the Mogul dynasty in the Indian Subcontinent and became the first Mogul emperor. He was a direct descendant of Timur through his father, and also a descendant of Genghis Khan through his mother. Culturally, he was greatly influenced by the Persian culture and this affected both his own actions and those of his successors, giving rise to a significant expansion of the Persianate ethos in the Indian subcontinent.
