Iranian director to attend Cinémas Du Monde Pavilion at Cannes
TEHRAN,May 8(MNA) -- Iranian director Shahram Alidi is a member of a delegation which will attend the 2012 Cinémas Du Monde Pavilion at Cannes Film Festival.
Shahram Alidi accompanied by nine other young directors from emerging countries will attend the event which will run from May 18 to 25.
He is selected for his project “A Cemetery Which Breeds Grapes Every Morning” which is under development and fundraising seeking patron from worldwide film company.
The 100-minute film is about a restaurant located strategically on a hill at the border of three countries have stopped many wars and spread peace thanks to its unique food. It is in English, Persian, Kurdish, and Arabic.
The pavilion provide an opportunity for directors to meet, to work and to exchange with both professionals and companies involved in the creation and promotion of global cinematography.
French actress Maria de Medeiros and director Elia Suleiman are the patrons of the fourth edition of the 2012 Cinémas du Monde Pavilion.
“Memory Exercises” by Paz Encina (Paraguay), “I Want to Live Her Life” by Luis Cifuentes (Chile), “Kill Me Please” by Anita Rocha Da Silveira (Brazil), “Lian-Qing, A Burmese Girl” by Midi Z (Burma) and “Jomo” by Kivu Ruhorahoza (Rwanda) amongst other projects of 2012 Cinémas Du Monde Pavilion.
Shahram Alidi’s debut drama “Whisper with the Wind” scooped three awards at this year’s 62nd Cannes Film Festival.
The awards contained the US$10,600 cash prize sponsored by the Main Fund of Social Activities (CCAS) and awarded by the Assn. of Independent Cinema for Distribution (ACID); the Ofaj/TV5 Monde prize, (VERY) Young Critic Award awarded by a jury of 32 French and German high school students; and the Regarde Jeunes prize, given by seven young film buffs.
